About

You have probably already heard that your home can become “a Money Pit.”  Of course, that is because there are always improvements you can make to your home.  First, there is always maintenance.  Some things just wear out and need to be replaced.  We recently discovered that we have peeling paint.  We also have a roof leak. Your appliances do not last forever. So what do you do? You fixed them.

Next, there are upgrades.  Houses use to require very little electricity. Now it requires more power to run all of our appliances, televisions, computers, and air conditioners.  This may require a big upgrade to the panel so that you get more electricity to your house so you can handle the increased load.

Third, projects that you want to do to make your home more luxurious or a remodel to make it larger. These are optional but you may feel strongly about doing them. Lately, people would rather add rooms than take the step of buying a new home and moving.

All in all, there are so many ways to spend your money on your home.  As a home owner who has completed three major remodels, I am an expert on hiring contractors, architects, designers, and city planners.  On two of the remodels, I was the general contractor who supervised the subcontractors that I hired. The entire project from start to finish was my responsibility.  It is this knowledge that I would like to pass onto you if you need some advice and assistance.

Oh, and let me add this!  I loved every minute of it.  Yes, it was difficult and it did cost a lot of money; but in the end, it certainly was worth it.  My husband named me Miss Winchester after the lady who kept building onto her house to keep the ghosts of the Winchester rifles away. He now says that my building days are over–but he should be afraid–very afraid.  He knows I really loved it.

Please enjoy this blog and hopefully, I will have something on it that you will enjoy learning or reading about.

Success on your projects,

Patricia Thomasson, EdD
